KUALA LUMPUR, 11 November 2021 – Pioneering Islamic fintech Ethis Group (Ethis), which operates investment platforms approved by regulators in Indonesia and Malaysia, and its social finance marketplace GlobalSadaqah and stock screener iSaham Sdn Bhd (iSaham) has officialised a strategic partnership to bolster retail market presence in Malaysia through the signing of a memorandum of understanding. The partnership also coincides with i-Saham’s 4th anniversary.

Ethis Group and GlobalSadaqah will combine their expertise and track record in Islamic fintech, investment crowdfunding and social finance with i-Saham’s strong Malaysian retail market presence in a collective bid to bolster brand positioning and digital presence, particularly within the local retail segment which has continued to flourish despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the 2020 Annual Report by the Securities Commission Malaysia, the net buying of local retail investors stood at RM14.3 billion, surpassing the RM10.3 billion spent by local institutional investors. Bursa Malaysia has also seen a significant increase in the participation of domestic retail investors in 2020, which brought the retail average daily trading value (ADTV) up by 236% to 1.6 billion.

As part of this partnership, investment and charity campaigns on Ethis Group and GlobalSadaqah will be featured on iSaham, while the stock screener will become a featured partner on both platforms. All the companies agree to cooperate, implement and develop mutually beneficial business initiatives that will also contribute to the digital economy development in Malaysia.

Wan Dazriq, CEO, Ethis Malaysia

“This partnership brings together deep skills in financial technology all under one roof, and naturally, we knew this would be a perfect brand synergy,” says Ethis Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Wan Mohd Dazriq Wan Zulkiflee.

“Besides that, iSaham’s vision to help people invest better synergises well with Ethis, which aims to make investing more accessible to the masses. We hope, together, we can circulate good by further serving the retail investor segment, and beyond that, play an active role in contributing to the development and adoption of digital finance technology  among Malaysians, in line with the Twelfth Malaysia Plan.”

GlobalSadaqah Chief Executive Officer Ifran Tarmizi

GlobalSadaqah Chief Executive Officer Ifran Tarmizi welcomes the partnership as a step forward in the right direction for the social finance marketplace.

“iSaham’s track record within retail is well demonstrated through their large database of retail investors and users despite being in the market for less than five years. This, and the fact that iSaham’s persona of users blends well with GlobalSadaqah and Ethis, is why we felt this partnership would have strong potential for growth,” he says.

“Although we are a global platform, ultimately, this partnership will allow GlobalSadaqah to better serve more donors in the Malaysian community and help us drive our goal of circulating social funds for good in a smarter way via initiatives such as the Global Guardian programme,” says Ifran.

Founded in 2017, iSaham’s vision is to help people invest better by providing robust, free and premium stock screeners, and research-backed investment classes. Their platform is a one-stop centre solution for assisting investors and traders in making a thorough analysis of their investments.

“The decision to partner up with Ethis was driven by their strong global presence and their reputation as a leading Islamic crowdfunding platform. We saw this as a great opportunity to cross-market our efforts,” says iSaham’s Founder Anas Ahmad Faris. “Ethis is one of the pioneers of Islamic finance technology and we saw that as a strong brand proposition for us.”
